"This short patch Ribadeo's history is an attempt, among the many that came to light since the publication of former Ribadeo of Francisco Launches or Notes on Ribadeo of Servando Méndez Sanjuan and others many that were published in recent times to recover these neglected plots of the profiles, events and glimpses of the history of Ribadeo and their past generations.
Pages glorious antiquities Ribadeo unknown to current generations, who sleep in the old forgotten files papers. Changes to the ancient inhabitants of Ribadeo were forged with great effort and determination in their collective struggle for the construction of a town famous and egregious. Pages that remind us of the efforts of our ancestors, authorities and people for the preservation of the past glories of the town of Ribadeo. An effort was not always accompanied by success, as you will see a along these pages. "

This paper, authored by José María Rodríguez Díaz , deals with the ups and downs experienced by the end of XII century and early thirteenth century, when the seat of the bishopric of Mondoñedo (called Villamayor de Vallibria until 1115) was transferred to Ribadeo (then Ripa Euue ) by order of King Ferdinand II of León dating from 1182 . The Bishops returned to the Mondoñedo city in 1218 .
